The Tamil Nadu government is said to be initiating steps to secure a one-acre site at Tirumala to construct its own choultry for the benefit of devotees visiting the hill temple from the State.

An indication to this effect is available in a letter addressed by the Department of Endowments, Tamil Nadu to Narra Munichandra, a Tirupati-based social activist and president of the ‘Praja Congress Party' who had earlier mooted the proposal to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

The Commissioner, Endowments, Tamil Nadu has in his letter to Munichandra has said that the government was ready to construct the choultry at Tirumala provided a one-acre site was either allotted to it or given to it on ‘outright sale' basis. It is to be seen as to how the State government would respond to the proposal even as there is scepticism over the move materialising in view of TTD's policy decision not to allot land at Tirumala to any State for building choultries.
