‘No dearth of funds for additional school buildings'
K. Balaraju, Minister for Tribal Welfare, has asked district Collector M. Ravichandra to take stock of irrigation facilities to tribals in their command area and also relief and rehabilitation package given to tribal people under Musurumilli and Bhupatipalem projects.
Responding to Rajya Sabha Member T. Ratnabai at Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) general body meeting on Thursday here, he asked the district Collector and irrigation officials to draw up plans to take up lift irrigation schemes along the canals, streams in Agency area and also drinking water facility to nearby villages from the Bhupatipalem Reservoir. The Minister also suggested implementing Indira Kranthi Patham programme for the benefit of women and their empowerment and launch second phase of `poorest of the poor' scheme.
The Minister took up the subject of mining lease in Chavadikota in Maredumilli mandal. He asked the officials whether lease was given before the announcement of Papikondalu National Park or after the announcement and asked them to send the report to his Ministry within 15 days. He stressed improvement of road connectivity between the villages and mandals in Agency.
He spoke about Indira Jala Prabha and Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu schemes and asked the officials to implement them immediately.
Members including MLC George Victor and N. Chinna Rajappa raised questions on deaths in Rajavommangi due to dengue and viral fevers, medical staff shortage, payment to Aasa workers and fraud in Addateegala pensions. Giving reply to all the questions the Collector said that he would order an inquiry into R and R package, Rajavommangi deaths and also filling of vacancies in Agency. On Command Area stabilization, Irrigation SE Gangadhar said that Jalayagnam works and regular works on Musurumilli, Bhupatipalem and Surampalem were merged with one another and promised members of ITDA that tribal people in command area would get irrigation water through lift and other means.
The Collector said that there was no dearth of funds for additional buildings in schools in Agency areas. ITDA project Officer Ch. Nagarani and MLA K. Viswanath spoke.
