APTTA set to install a `robot' at IGMC Stadium
The machine sprays the ball at a certain velocity enabling paddlers to fine-tune their game
VIJAYAWADA: In an attempt to introduce modern gadgets in the training regime of up and coming paddlers, the Andhra Pradesh Table Tennis Association (APTTA) will be installing a robot (ball-spraying machine) at Satyam memorial table tennis hall in IGMC Stadium next week.
Speaking to The Hindu on Monday, APTTA vice-president S.M. Sultan said that the machine, manufactured by the STAG International, a German company, would cost Rs. 60,000. "Paddlers can improve their game immensely with the help of this machine. The machine sprays the ball at a certain velocity of speed, thus enabling the paddlers to fine-tune their anticipation and on-court movement. The machine also shoots the ball with various spin patterns. The machine will be installed during the summer coaching camp, which will begin this week," he said.
More to come
According to Mr. Sultan, similar machines would be installed in other important centres in the State in a phased manner. Meanwhile, the Krishna District Table Tennis Association is all set to begin its annual summer coaching camp from May 3 at IGMC Stadium, Makineni Basavapunniah Stadium, Singh Nagar, and Patamata indoor stadium. Several senior paddlers would don the role of coaches to impart the nuances of the game to rookie paddlers. "We're expecting around 100 children at all three centres," said KDTTA secretary Uday Kumar.
