A suspended AP Special Police constable has taken to chain-snatching.

The accused, who was allegedly involved in 14 chain snatchings was arrested by the P.M. Palem police on Saturday. N. Prabhakar, 30, had joined the 13{+t}{+h}AP SP Battalion at Adilabad in 2004.

He was a good sportsman and had a promising career.

He was married and did not seem to have any financial problems.

He deserted the job and was placed under suspension, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Mohd. Khan told a media conference.

Prabhakar came to the city and settled at Mithilapuri VUDA Colony at Madhurawada and started snatching chains. He was arrested for various cases committed under P.M. Palem police station on August 9 this year and released from jail on August 18. He returned to his old ways and committed 14 crimes under P.M. Palem, MVP Zone, III Town, Kancharapalem, Airport Zone, Gajuwaka and Bheemunipatnam police stations.

Gold ornaments weighing 17 tolas and a motorcycle were recovered from the accused.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Madhurawada) Rajender and Madhurawada Inspector Venkata Rao were present.

Mr. Khan gave away cash awards to Inspector Venkata Rao and his team for their efforts in the arrest of the accused.
