HYDERABAD: CPI State Council secretary K. Narayana on Wednesday demanded immediate suspension of Nalgonda Municipal Chairman P. Venkat Narayana for ‘misusing’ his official position in not implementing government orders to scrap the lease of Prem Talkies and for ‘illegal’ allotment of 104 shops in the municipal vegetable market.

In a letter to Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, he charged the government with adopting an ‘indifferent’ attitude in taking action against the Municipal Chairman despite the observations of the Lok Ayukta and the AP High Court and assertion by the Lok Satta and other parties besides officials that he had misused his position. The CPI leader recalled that the municipality had fixed the 25-year lease rate of Prem Talkies at Rs. 267 and in 2006 increasing the lease period by three years and the amount to Rs. 363. The TDP and CPI(M) councillors had given a dissenting note on the municipality’s decision, he stated.
