A suspect in a theft case, Sambaiah, who had allegedly been beaten up during interrogation at Atchampet, reportedly made an aborted bid to commit suicide on Tuesday night.
Police rushed him to a local hospital in Sattenapalli and on Wednesday got him admitted to a private hospital in Guntur. His condition is stated to be out of danger. Sambaiah was an auto rickshaw driver and he was nabbed by the police in connection with a theft case.
Fearing harassment by the police, Sambaiah reportedly gulped down broken pieces of a tube light. This is the second such incident in Atchampet police station recently causing embarrassment to the police. Earlier, S.P (Rural) A. Ravichandra suspended a home guard, Rambabu, and issued a charge memo against S.I Sambasiva Rao on charge of abetting a person to commit suicide.
