‘Singing so many songs is like a yagnam’
Suseela attends felicitation function
YSR to present award to best singer selected by her trust
ONGOLE: Playback singer P Suseela turned nostalgic here on Sunday recalling her singing career spanning over four decades. She came here for a felicitation on being conferred Padma Bhushan award.
Speaking to newspersons at the house of MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, Mrs Suseela said that her career had given her tremendous satisfaction and recognition that she would cherish till the last. “It was like performing a yagnam to sing 40,000 songs that ring in the ears of the listeners even today,” she felt.
Saying that Ghantasala became a legend in playback singing, she said that their pair became so successful in Telugu cinema that it made her proud.
Mrs Suseela said that she had floated a trust to give best singer award every year. A three-member committee has been constituted to select the awardee this year and Chief Minister, Y S Rajasekhara Reddy would give away the award. The trust would o help poor artistes with a monthly pension of Rs. 200 each.
She said she continued singing on stage not for commercial considerations but to do her bit of social service.
She later garlanded the statue of Ghantasala in CVN reading room. Mr Srinivasulu Reddy paid tributes to Suseela.
