CC cameras to be installed at IGMC Stadium, says Municipal Commissioner
Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium will get closed circuit cameras as a measure to beef up security.
At the inaugural of summer camps here on Wednesday, Municipal Commissioner G. Panda Das said that in order to bring orderliness, the athletes who use the stadium would be given identity cards.
“The IGMC Stadium is the most sought-after place for sporting activities. Hundreds of youngsters visit it on a daily basis to play their chosen sport. There is every need to monitor the movement of people coming here for security reasons,” he added.
The identity cards will prevent entry of unauthorised people.
Mr. Das asked the youngsters to make use of the facilities provided by the corporation and learn the rudiments of their chosen sport with dedication.
“Sports and games are essential for fitness and health. You should continue to play even after the summer is over,” he suggested.
Krishna District Olympic Association (KDOA) secretary K.P. Rao urged the Commissioner not to collect the enhanced amount from the players and suggested that the increased amount be paid by the respective associations.
“The extra amount is a burden on the players. We will ensure the collection of the enhanced fee from the associations, which will be sent to the corporation,” he said.
Mr. Das said that he would convene a meeting to work out the modalities with the stakeholders.
Gollapudi Marketyard Chairman Arja Panduranga Rao urged the corporation to reintroduce the youth festival for the benefit of youngsters. The Commissioner handed over the sports kits to the participants.
Mr. Das interacted with the participants and played hockey, football, and throwball for a while, thus marking the commencement of the 45-day camp.
Additional Joint Collector N. Ramesh Kumar, Regional Deputy Director G. Chinnaiah, and VMC sports in-charge Z. Srinivasa Rao were present.
The month-long cricket camp being conducted by the Krishna District Cricket Association was inaugurated by Andhra Cricket Association secretary Gokaraju Gangaraju at Siddhartha Medical College grounds.
