Wafting aroma of lip smacking delicacies enveloped the Crystal Ball Room 2, the venue of the first ever Master Chef Award 2013, introduced by hotel Fortune Murali Park on Tuesday.
Culinary fraternity members of local hotels vied for the title by whipping up an eclectic mix of flavours in different categories. The hotel’s General Manager Venkatesh Rao and Executive Chef Mohammed Rafique Khan coordinated the event.
“Responding to our invite to come up with innovative flavours, 18 participants vied for the title,” said Mr. Rao. Chefs from Hotel Taj Gateway, D.V. Manor, Westin College of Hotel Management and other institutions took part.
Sumesh Balan of the bakery section in Hotel Gateway won the title of ‘Master Chef of Vijayawada 2013’ by whipping up delicious chocolate fudge in the dessert section.
Riaz Khan of hotel D.V. Manor was given a golden hat for his innovation in ‘murg hara dhania tikka’ and ‘bhatti ki sabzi’, Ramesh Vyas was given silver hat for dishing out an appetising tomato mushroom biryani and Maqbul Khan of Gateway Hotel was given a bronze hat for his tasty mushroom galoti.
Siva Parvathi of Fortune Murali Park bagged the ‘Best Cuisine Award’ for her bangada fish fry.
“Consistency, colour, taste and presentation were some of the key factors that guided the judges to pick on the winners,” said Mr. Rao.
Mr. Rao said that the next event would be ‘Lady Chef of the Year’ wherein entries would be invited from all sections but the final 10 participants would be finalised based on draw of lots.
The participants would be asked to dish out a variety of soup or starter, one item in the main course section and a dessert item. Experienced chefs from local hotels will be invited to judge the dishes, he said.
