A tense situation prevailed at the Pendurthy Police Station when relatives of a suicide victim staged a dharna on Saturday. Amanullah, 40, of Appalanarasaiah Colony at Vepagunta, ekes out a living by buying and selling old newspapers. On a tip-off that Amanullah was indulging in petty thefts, the Pendurthy Police picked him up and interrogated him at the police station. He consumed pesticide and committed suicide as he felt slighted at going to the police station.

Amanullah's relatives and Muslim religious leaders staged a dharna at the police station seeking action against the SI.
