Two accused persons try to end lives to evade arrest

HYDERABAD: Amid high drama, two persons who were involved in a series of murder and theft cases in Cyberabad limits attempted suicide by setting themselves ablaze at a local court in Neredmet on Thursday. They apparently resorted to the act to evade arrest.

Shaik Rayeez (30), a resident of Hanumanpet in Malkajgiri and B. Suresh (24) of Vinayak Nagar in Neredmet came to the court on the pretext of meeting a lawyer. The duo later poured petrol on themselves and threatened to commit suicide if the police tried to arrest them. But the court staffers with the help of other attendants foiled their attempt and handed them over to the police.

According to the police, Rayeez and Suresh were involved in two murder and four theft cases. On January 11, the accused consumed liquor with their friend, Ch. Chakravarthy (25), and reportedly murdered him by smashing his head with a boulder following alleged differences between them over a trivial issue. His body was later dumped in bushes at Saket Colony in Kushaiguda.

Neredmet Inspector K. Balakoti said a case of attempt to commit suicide under Section 309 of Indian Penal Code was registered against Rayeez and Suresh and produced them in the same court. "We will file a petition in court seeking police custody of these two persons" he added.

The Inspector said a history-sheet was also opened against Rayeez in Malkajgiri police station for his involvement in several cases.
