Lok Satta Party national president Jayaprakash Narayan has exhorted the students to pursue aptitude and skill-based courses, which suits the societal needs and offers gainful employment.

“The country needs more diploma holders with requisite technical competence compared to the surplus number of engineers currently available. There is a huge demand for nurses and para-medical professionals in the vast health sector,” he noted.

He was speaking at an awareness programme on educational and employment opportunities organised by a charitable trust at the Government High School at Rikka Bazar here on Saturday. Skill-based education is the need of the hour as there are ample employment opportunities for the skilled electricians, cell phone mechanics, AC and computer hardware technicians, carpenters, plumbers, and other technicians in the market.

One should not get carried away by the craze for engineering and medicine courses. You should pursue the course of your choice based on a pragmatic assessment of its job potential and relevance in terms of societal needs, he suggested.
