Students of Andhra University Nagarjuna Hostel went on a protest against hefty mess bills on Saturday night and continued it till Sunday afternoon.
There was some tension with students remaining unrelenting and two of them falling unconscious and being shifted to the KGH by ambulance.
The boarders were contending that the mess bills that were used to be around Rs.1200 mounted to Rs.1500.
The university paid the wages of the hostel workers till last year.
But from this year onwards, students have to contribute 50 per cent of the wages.
Students, who launched the protest last night, refused to heed the advice of Chief Warden Viswanadham and Warden Rama Rao and call it off.
They demanded that the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar should come and listen to their grievances.
In the morning too, they continued the protest.
Arts College Principal L.K. Mohana Rao who spoke to them in the morning assured them that he would take the issue to the notice of the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar and would do his best to lower the bills following which they ended their protest.
The issue of non-boarders also figured.
