Over 1,000 students from different educational institutions in the city participated in the International Coastal Cleanup Day held at Vakalapudi beach here on Saturday. The Indian Coastguard Station (ICGS) Kakinada conducted the annual event, in which students and representatives of various service organisations removed litter from the beach by collecting it to the bags.
Addressing the students, commandent of the ICGS, Kakinada, R.K. Sharma said that every citizen should feel it as their responsibility to protect environment in general and the coastal vicinities in particular. He called upon the students not to leave the used bottles and other plastic material while they visited the beach along with their family and friends. Commanding officer of the ICG Gangadevi Anikenth Singh was present.
