NIZAMABAD: Students, along with parents and relatives of engineering student L. Nanditha (19) who was found dead at

the Bhavani Women’s Hostel, staged a dharna in front of the Government Hospital on Friday demanding action against the hostel management.

Student organisations and parents of the girl -- Lakshetti Gangaram and Indira -- alleged that she was murdered as she had come to know of the “illicit activities” being carried out by the hostel management. The Fourth Town Police station registered a case and said they would come out with details after a thorough investigation. According to Sub-Inspector Seetharam, the post-mortem was conducted by a group of doctors, but the report on viscera was pending. No arrests were made so far, he said.

Meanwhile, 12 members of the Progressive Democratic Students Union, including its town president Saritha, vice-president Soundarya and Balamani, were arrested and remanded under the charges of obstructing the work of government officers and blocking the traffic.
