Hyderabad: The Hyderabad zone of APSRTC on Saturday urged students, specially those pursuing higher studies in colleges on the city outskirts to purchase computerised bus pass tickets, enabling the corporation to assess the demand and operate additional buses accordingly.

There are over 120 professional colleges, including engineering, pharmacy and management in the Moinabad, Ibrahimpatnam, Kothaguda, Ghatkesar sectors.

However, a majority of the students travelling on these sectors were still buying manual bus passes instead of the computer-generated ones. With enrolment of students on the rise, assessing the demand was becoming difficult for authorities as the corporation does not maintain a database of manual bus passes, said Hyderabad RM M. Sitapati in a press release here on Saturday.

Based on the bus passes sold in a particular sector, additional services were run. It would be useful for them if all the students bought computerised bus passes, enabling easy assessment of demand and press into service additional buses or increase the number of trips. To make it convenient for students, the corporation was operating over 50 online computerised bus pass centres at different locations in twin cities. This apart exclusive bus pass centres are being set up in college premises from this academic year, he added.
