A Class X student suffered a fracture on his hand after being allegedly beaten up by a teacher (an education volunteer) at the ZP High School at the remote Dharmaram village in Wajedu mandal two days ago.

The incident came to the fore on Wednesday when a section of the villagers, including the grandfather of the injured boy, brought the matter to the notice of the officials concerned. However, the headmaster of the school rebutted the allegations.

According to sources, Sai Teja, 15, sustained an injury on his hand when Naresh, an education volunteer appointed by the school management committee, allegedly beat him up for not bringing the prescribed book to the classroom two days ago. Sai Teja had swelling on his injured hand the next day.

He was shifted to a hospital in Bhadrachalam after being diagnosed with fracture in the hand. Meanwhile, relatives of Sai Teja complained that lack of proper supervision on part of the headmaster concerned led to the incident. “We have called for a report from the MEO to ascertain the facts and initiate appropriate steps,” said N. Rajesh, DEO (Agency), Bhadrachalam.
