HYDERABAD: A 12-year-old boy got crushed to death under the wheels of his school bus after slipping from the footboard at L.B. Nagar on Monday.

A sixth standard student of Gowtham model school’s Dilsukhnagar branch, K.V. Uma Maheswara Rao was standing on the footboard of the bus on the way to his house when the accident occurred around 4.30 p.m. There was no cleaner in the school bus though the Government made it mandatory that all school buses shall have cleaners to assist the kids alight from and get inside the buses. The bus was passing by road no. 1 of Alkapuri in L.B. Nagar when Rao slid and fell on the road. He came under the rear wheels and sustained serious injuries. The driver Ramalinga Swamy stopped the bus as the students raised an alarm. He fled the spot on seeing the injured boy but was caught late in the night by the police. Passers-by shifted Rao to nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
