Having a stroke protocol and networking in all private hospitals across the State can significantly reduce the number of deaths due to trauma, Sangita Reddy, executive director, Apollo Hospitals, said here on Saturday.

Speaking after inaugurating the 4{+t}{+h}edition of the two-day ‘Criticare Apollo 2013’ here, she emphasised on inculcating awareness among the masses. “The earlier you bring the patient, the better the chances of survival,” she added. Explaining that the Apollo Hospitals Group had an established trauma care system in place, she said the need of the hour was to reach out to the community. “We had 7,000 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) last year,” she said.

Rajib Paul, Intensivist at Apollo Hospitals and Honorary Secretary of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) said critical care was a relatively-new but increasingly important medical speciality.
