VISAKHAPATNAM: Striking teachers on Sunday organised dharnas in front of the residences of MLAs and submitted memoranda to them seeking that they be conveyed to the government.
The dharnas were organised according to a State-wide call given by the Joint Action Committee of Teachers’ Organisations (JACTO).
The protest was held at the residence of MLAs Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao and S. Ranga Raju, though both had left to welcome the Chief Minister on a transit halt to the city.
According to District Steering Committee member M. Sattibabu, when teachers went to the house of MP N. Janardhan Reddy, Commercial Taxes Minister Konathala Ramakrishna and other MLAs were also present there.
Mr. Janardhan Reddy assured them that their problems would be taken to the notice of the government.
Teachers also protested at the residence of Bhimili MLA Karri Sitaramu. Teachers working under various departments had been on strike since October 22 demanding, among other things, transfers and promotions, unified service rules, notional increments for apprentice service of two years, etc.
