Joint Collector Gaurav Uppal on Wednesday said that criminal charges would be initiated if any irregularities were found in the distribution of rice to public distribution system (PDS) points.

Addressing a review meeting, he said that stringent action would be initiated if there was any violation of norms in distribution of rice from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to mandal-level stock point. The quality of rice, immediately on arrival, should be certified by 15 cardholders. The paper signed by the ration cardholders should be sent to district headquarters immediately. The route officials should accompany while transporting the stock from mandal level to PDS shops, he said, adding that the stock should be returned if inferior quality rice was supplied to mandal stock points.

Dr. Uppal said that quality rice should be supplied to welfare hostels, anganwadi centres and schools where midday meal scheme was being implemented. Action would be initiated against officials and staff if teams of joint task force found inferior quality rice being used in these places.

Representatives of the Rice Millers Association, mandal stock point officers, social welfare officials were present.
