ELURU: The ‘rain god’ seemingly became helpless in shielding himself from the political diatribe at a meeting of the District Review Committee (DRC) here on Friday. Alluding to the ‘grace’ of rain god in favour of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy which resulted in bounty rainfalls round the year, leading to the overflowing of reservoirs, the Congress members claimed to have got the nature’s blessings for the ‘good deeds’ of their regime. In a bid to drive their point home, they recalled a comment made by Finance Minister K. Rosaiah in a lighter vein in the Assembly that the rain god joined the Congress party.

Turning tables, TDP MLA Kothapalli Subbarayudu observed, “That’s the reason why, the rain god became so stone-hearted that vast extents of crops were devastated recently because of the unseasonal rains in the State”. When Dr. Rajasekhar Reddy was claiming to be a ‘rytu pakshapathi’ (pro-farmer), the rain god turned to be quite inhuman towards the farmers”, the TDP leader retaliated.

Collector G. Jayalakshmi said the district suffered a heavy loss with the damage of crops in 42,000 hectares, including agriculture in 34,200 acres in the flash rains. The crop loss was estimated to be around 7.75 crore, she explained.
