ANANTAPUR: Students of Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) who clashed with the police on Tuesday, were confined to the campus on Wednesday.

Armed policemen in large numbers were posted at all the entrance gates of the campus and students were not allowed to come out to the national highway nearby. Students broke the glass panes of physics and chemistry laboratories.

Telugu Desam polit bureau member Kalava Sreenivasulu and Nannapaneni Rajakumari, MLC, were arrested when they tried to enter the university campus to meet the students. Meanwhile, rallies, bandhs and demonstrations were held throughout the district in support of a unified Andhra Pradesh. Activists picketed and later locked the offices of the Divisional Railway Manager preventing employees from entering.

The indefinite fast by the three TDP MLAs Paritala Sunitha, B.K.Parthasaradhy, Palle Raghunath Reddy and two other leaders near the Clock Tower entered the third day.

District Congress Committee president Patel Venugopala Reddy visited the hunger strike camp and spent some time with them to express his solidarity with them. Another MLA Venkatarama Reddy commenced an indefinite fast in his home town Dharmavaram. People of the district have been suffering for the past five days due to the closure of shops, banks, ATM’s, cinema halls and all central and state government undertakings, totally paralysing normal and domestic life.
