‘Stem cell therapy a potential option to treat various ailments’

Stem cell therapy has emerged as a potential therapeutic option to treat various ailments including certain types of disorders associated with diabetes due to the constant research in clinical immunology, said B. Venkat Rathnam, Vice-Chancellor, Kakatiya University.

He was speaking after inaugurating a two-day national seminar on “Immune Disorders and Current Trends in Immunology” at S R & B G N R Government Degree and P G College here on Wednesday.

“Ongoing research in tumour immunology has opened up new horizons for deeper understanding of the causes of different types of cancers and exploring new treatment options,” he said emphasising the significance of research in the vital sphere of immunology.

He called upon the students to imbibe a spirit of inquisitiveness for not only excelling in their academic pursuits but also in research studies for finding remedies for various incurable ailments plaguing the mankind. Professor Jagan Pongubala of Department of Animal Sciences, University of Hyderabad, gave a PowerPoint presentation on “Gene Transcription”.

S R & B G N R Degree and P G College Principal S. Madhava Rao, and others spoke.

The subject experts comprising distinguished academicians from various universities delivered lectures on the related topics. The Department of Zoology of the College is conducting the two-day UGC-sponsored seminar.
