VISAKHAPATNAM: Union Minister for Steel Virbhadra Singh will dedicate the new coke oven of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to the nation on May 10.

Accompanied by Union Minister of State for Steel A. Sai Pratap, Mr. Singh will present the ‘First Steel Minister's Trophy to Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited/VSP and dedicate the coke oven battery- IV of VSP to the nation.

RINL/VSP had bagged the First Steel Minister's Trophy for 2006-07 for the best integrated steel plant (runner up) in the country for its excellent overall performance encompassing ‘inspirational leadership', ‘ever committed workforce', ‘operational efficiency with a culture of creativity and innovation' and ‘value for money supplier in the market place.'

The coke oven battery-IV is seven metre tall with dry quenching to produce eight lakh tonne per annum of coke with facilities for generation of 14 MW power. It is equipped with energy efficient state of art combustion control system with online charging coal measurement and fuel gas analyser.

Environmental compliant battery with high pressure ammonium liquor aspiration system and water sealed A.P. covers for emission control are one of the important features of the battery. It has land based pushing emission control system, first of its kind in the country.
