Many girls unaware of adolescence changes
‘Wholesome diet with proteins a must’
GUNTUR: Keeping good health and hygiene are the key factors for a successful life, senior lecturer in Community Medicine N.R.I Medical College, H. Kalyana Rao, said here on Monday. Giving a power-point presentation on ‘Health awareness among women’ made to the students of Vignan Nirula College of Engineering, Mr. Kalyana Rao told the students to inculcate clean habits from the early stage of life to keep away infections.
Taking the students on a journey of various stages of life from infancy to adolescence to old age, he dwelt on various physical and psychological behavioural changes associated with the growth of a woman.
A recent survey conducted by some of the house surgeons revealed that at least 40 per cent of girls were not aware of various changes during their adolescence period and the means to tackle them.
He advised mothers to embrace the queries of daughters and be a friend.
Girls should also confide some of the issues relating to their bodies to their mothers and seek their advice, he mooted.
Stressing the importance of providing a wholesome diet including a good share of protein to girls in their adolescence stage, he said that this would make the bodies strong and withstand the stress during pregnancy.
He also touched on the issues of early detection of breast cancer, various infections and the problems relating to the menstrual cycle. College Principal Ramji was present.
