Rs.50,000 for maintenance of each hostel building, residential school mooted

  • Additional Rs. 100 crores for paying SC scholarships
  • Rs. 22 crores for mess charges

    HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy directed the Finance Department here on Thursday to secure at the earliest Rs. 274-crore funds from the Centre for the post-matric scholarships.

    At a review meeting, he also asked the department to release Rs.100 crores for payment of post-matric scholarships to SC students in addition to the earlier allocations for the current year in tune with his announcement made last week. He said Rs.8.93 crores should be released immediately under water, electricity charges, rents, tutor charges and cosmetic charges to the students of the Government hostels.

    He asked officials to release Rs.22 crores additionally for enhancing the mess charges and for greater amenities while adding that they should project Rs.5 crores for maintenance of Social Welfare residential school buildings in the budget estimates for 2007-08.

    Reviewing the status of allocations and releases for SW, BC and ST welfare along with Minister for Social Welfare Redya Naik, he said regular maintenance of hostel buildings and residential schools was necessary and up to Rs.50,000 must be allotted for each of the buildings henceforth in the budget.

    He was informed by the officials that the budget for Social Welfare hostels was steadily increasing over a period from Rs.597.87 crores in 2001-02 to Rs.1553.83 crores during the current year.
