The State government has decided to use Section 5 (3) of the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act of 1956 under which the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal was formed in 2004 on sharing of Krishna water, to file the review petition against the Tribunal award seeking justice to Andhra Pradesh.
P. Ramaraju, chief engineer, Irrigation (Inter-state & Water Resources), said under this Section of the Act, the Union Government or a State involved could seek explanation or guidance on the award within three months from the pronouncement of the award.
Experts to be consulted
He said the government had begun a consultation exercise to get views of the irrigation experts and water management specialists not only in the State but elsewhere in the country, particularly those well-versed in issues relating to the Krishna river, to frame the contents of the review petition. As part of the exercise, he said, a meeting would be held with these experts and specialists soon for broad-based discussions with them.
The experts could access website www.irrigation.ap.gov.in /kwdtawrd.html to get the details of the award before participating in the meeting. They could also send their views by post addressed to Chief Engineer, Inter State & Water Resources, Irrigation & CAD Department, 2nd floor, Jalasoudha, Errum Manzil, Hyderabad 500082 or e-mail them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
