Keertana Jyothi Raman of Chennai and Lalitha Sindhuri of Rajahmundry bagged ‘Swarna Mayuri' (first prizes) under seniors category in the national-level Kuchipudi dance competitions.
M. Sneha of Kerala bagged first prize in junior category, while Puja of Warangal stood top in sub-junior category in the contests. The traditional dance contests were organised by Sri Adala Nrutya Kala Peetam at Sri Venkateswara Kasturba Kala Kshetram in the city from August 4 to 7.
Sri Adala Nrutya Kala Peetam awarded Rs.1 lakh cash prize for the winners in seniors category, Rs.75,000 for juniors and Rs.50,000 for the winner in sub-juniors category, along with citation certificates in the valedictory function held here on Sunday.
About 100 dancers from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and other States participated . Consolation prizes were presented to more than six dancers who performed well in the event. The artistes thanked the management of Sri Adala Nrutya Kala Peetam for organising the event, which is first-of-its-kind in the State. Veteran actor and event organizer Manju Bhargavi gave a final touch to the programme by performing Kuchipudi dance on the closing day of the event on Sunday. Actor Urvasi Sarada and Kuchipudi dancers across the State attended the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarvapalli MLA Adala Prabhakara Reddy who formed Sri Adala Nrutya Kala Peetam said the Kuchipudi dance contests would be organised every year, and thanked the participants for making the first year event a grand success.
