Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium will be abuzz with action with poplar television and movie stars wielding the willows on Sunday (December 16) as they take part in the limited overs cricket tournament — Star Cricket League — being organised by All India Entertainments, for a cause.

The league tournament conceived by E.D. Naidu, an event manager, will feature four teams — Blue, Red, Green, and Yellow — in the day-long cricket carnival.

“Star Cricket League is dedicated to encourage sports throughout India by involving television and film fraternity. After Vijayawada, we will stage a match in every district headquarters, every alternative month,” said chief organising secretary Lohith. He said the entry for the match is free, but through invitation cards.

All the four teams will clash in two matches held in 12 over-a-side and the final will be a 15over-a-side event.

“The tournament will commence at 8 a.m. Each team will carry a social message such as — ‘Donate blood and save life’ for Red team, ‘Go green and save environment’ for Green, ‘Win medals and make India proud’ for Yellow, and ‘Save water and save planet’ for Blue.

The players were practising hard to lift the coveted trophy, said Mr. Sameer, an up-and-coming film actor.

‘Narthanasala’ TV serial fame Nanda Kishore said each team would wear colourful outfits matching its name.

“After the final, we will collect money for charity and all the proceeds will go for charity,” he added.
