A two-day stamps, coins and currency notes exhibition of Guntur Numismatic & Philatelic Society (GNPS) was inaugurated by D.S.V.R. Murthy, Regional Director of Postal Services, at Balaji Kalyanamandapam on Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple premises at Brindavan Gardens here on Saturday.
On the occasion, Mr. Murthy said collection of stamps and coins was an interesting hobby, which should be ideally inculcated in children to make them aware of the world around them and its history. GNPS secretary M.V.S. Prasad said the exhibition was organised to mark the society’s 18th anniversary and National Postal Week. Its president A.V. Krishna Rao presided over the inaugural function. Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple Committee general secretary Gummadi Radhakrishna Murthy spoke.
Later, letter-writing and quiz competitions were organised for schoolchildren and a workshop on philately and numismatics was held.
