Courts at all the venues are given a facelift, says official
Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences will host the South Zone Inter-University Basketball (men) Tournament from December 19 to 23 featuring 69 teams from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, according to University Vice-Chancellor I.V. Rao.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Rao said the knockout-cum-league tournament will be held at four venues - Siddhartha Medical College, Andhra Loyola College, Dr. Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences (Chinoutpalli) and NRI Medical College (Chinnakakani).
In all 828 players and 139 coaches will be accommodated at the respective venues and from quarterfinals onwards the matches will be held at Siddhartha Medical College on December 22 and 23.
University Sports Board secretary E. Thirumurthy said the courts in all the venues were given a facelift such as new boards, hoops and lights. “Barring Andhra Loyola College, matches in the rest of three venues will be held under floodlights. Forty officials from Andhra Pradesh Basketball Association will conduct the tournament,” he added.
The Inter-University Sports Board of India had allotted All-India inter-university yoga event for the first time to the NTR University and is likely to be staged in February, he said.
