Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has responded positively to a proposal to establish State ST Commission, Tribal Welfare Minister P. Balaraju told reporters here on Friday.

“There are SC and ST Commissions at the national-level and an SC Commission for the State. If State ST Commission is also formed, the SC and ST Sub-Plan would become meaningful and will provide a boost to the implementation of schemes meant for the welfare of STs”, Mr. Balaraju said.

The Indiramma Kalalu programme was being conducted to create a wider awareness among people about the schemes meant for the welfare of SCs and STs, he said.

Minister for Social Welfare Pitani Satyanarayana said the ST Commission in AP would be the first State-level commission in the country.

The Indiramma Kalalu programme would be conducted till April 30 and the Sub-Plan funds would be spent according to the priority determined during the programme.

Both the Ministers claimed that programmes like Amma Hastam, Indiramma Kalalu, 108, 104, Arogya Sri, etc., have improved people’s confidence in the government and other States are taking the cue from the AP government. But Opposition parties launched a negative propaganda against the Congress unable to stomach the fact that the people were supporting the government. The Congress would become stronger and win the next elections too, they added.
