The 44-year old pachyderm will be replaced by a 24-year-old one

KURNOOL: Forty-four-year-old Saraswathi, elephant at the Srisailam temple, will be replaced by a younger one in a short while from now. Saraswathi was donated by a devotee from Trichur in Kerala last year.

After the arrival of the elephant, the Wildlife Department advised temple authorities to make arrangements for comfortable stay of the pachyderm and obtain permission for keeping the elephant in their safe custody.

The temple authorities took a decision to return the elder Saraswathi to its Trichur donor and formally communicated the same to him.

In the meantime, another donor came forward to donate a 24-year-old elephant. The wildlife clearance was obtained for the second one. The temple authorities have arranged for stay, food and medical facilities for the new animal.
