YSR Congress Party excluded Srikakulam town from Y.S. Sharmila’s padayatra, causing disappointment to many leaders and activists who felt that the party would gain more strength if district headquarters was included in the route map of Maro Prajaprasthanam. Ms.Sharmila’s padayatra which was completed in Amudalavalasa mandal will enter Narasannapeta mandal on Friday via Alikam, Bhairi and Singupuram villages of Srikakulam mandal. Ms. Sharmila has to walk for 15 more km. if Srikakulam town is included in the tour map.

Differences cropped up between a few YSR Congress leaders and the party district convener Dharmana Padmapriya, wife of Narsannapeta MLA Dharmana Krishnadas. The leaders alleged that Srikakulam was deliberately removed from the tour map as the Dharmana Krishnadas family did not want to antagonise former minister Dharmana Prasada Rao who represents Srikakulam Assembly constituency. A few leaders reportedly sent fax messages to the party honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma and brought the issue to the notice of senior leaders.

“Sharmila covered all the district headquarters including Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram in North Andhra region but Srikakulam town is excluded. It is nothing but ‘understanding’ between Dharmana brothers,” a senior leader commented. Ms. Padmapriya denied the charges saying that the route map was planned to minimise the distance.

“Ms.Sharmila has to walk extra distance if Maro Praja Prasthanam goes via Srikakulam town. That is why we have not included district head quarters,” she told The Hindu .

The party sources said that the leadership did not want to trouble strong leaders of other parties since they might join YSR Congress just before the election if Congress party would take a decision in favour of Telangana.

Tekkali leaders are also unhappy with the exclusion of their town from the tour. According to sources, there are serious differences between Tekkali YSR Congress leader Duvvada Srinivas and Dharmana family.

Mr. Srinivas supporters alleged that Krishnadas family did not want to benefit him by including Tekkali constituency in Prajaprasthanam. Ms. Sharmila’s padayatra will enter Palasa via Patapatnam constituency after touring in Narasannapeta constituency. Meanwhile, a few locals of Amudalavalasa mandal alleged that the personal security members of YSR Sharmila were behaving rudely with the public. They said that security was important but polite behaviour was equally needed to win their hearts.
