. Hassle-free passage to be ensured

VISAKHAPATNAM: The annual Margasira month festival will be organised at Sri Kanakamahalakshmi temple in old city from November 21 to December 20.

Informing this to reporters here on Saturday, chairman of the temple trust board Vankayala Sanyasri Raju (Tatajee) said care would be taken to ensure that the thousands of devotees visiting the temple would have a free passage.

The daily special programmes during the month-long festival would be panchamruthabhishekam, ksheerabhishekam, recital of hymns, daily discourses by eminent scholars.

The highlights include a Veda Panditha Sabha on December 10 evening when scholars would be honoured, and sahasraghatabhishekam on December 14. This year also the Ashtalakshmi alankaram will be conducted from December 11 to 20 and the organisers had requisitioned the services of Anantacharyulu of Nellore, expert in the field.

Posters released

Mr. Tatajee, executive officer of the temple Ch. Baburao and other trustees released the posters and invitation cards sponsored by managing partners Chandana Mohana Rao and Mavuri Venkataramana of Chandana Bros and CMR.

They also thanked the head of Vizag Defence Academy Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar for acquiring a 87-sq.yd. premises on the northern border of the temple with Rs.8 lakhs and donating it for conducting Annadanam programme.

Free buses will be operated on all the four Thursdays, considered very auspicious during the month.

Steady rise

Mr. Babu Rao said the offerings at the temple recorded a steady rise. From over Rs.33 lakhs for the year 2002-03, it increased to Rs.46 lakhs, Rs.48 lakhs and Rs.65 for the subsequent years in that order and this year he hoped that it would reach Rs.90 lakhs.

About 125 additional staff would be working at the temple during the month on deputation from other departments, he said.
