The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has seized a large quantity of 200 ml pouches of packaged drinking water that carried ‘ISI' mark without valid licence, on Friday, a press release said.

The seizure was made at a Misrigunj-based manufacturer, Seema Aqua Minerals, who produces packaged drinking water with the brand name of ‘Aqua Prince.' The manufacturer was booked under BIS Act, 1986, the release said. Under BIS Act, a manufacturer using ‘ISI' mark without a valid licence can land in jail for a period of one year or can face a fine of Rs. 50,000 or both.

BIS has further notified that anyone with the information of misusing the ISI mark can notify the same to Bureau of Indian Standards, M-4 Block, Ist Floor, Manoranjan Complex, APHB Building, M.J. Road, Hyderabad – 500001, or e-mail at ‘hbo@bis.org.in.'
