YSR's visit goads civic staff to action. The result: Pariwada gets a new look

HYDERABAD: On Friday, Pardiwada wore a new look, courtesy Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's visit to the area to launch `Operation Dengue'. In fact, the residents of the area were still in a daze, struggling to come to terms with the change that their area underwent in one single night!

The road from the Jali Hanuman temple into the `basti' up to the spot where Dr. Reddy was supposed to distribute cycle rickshaws and launch fogging operations was given its first coat of tar in years, that too, in less than seven hours.

"We were surprised. All of a sudden, by evening, they came with their equipment, cleared the garbage that was lying around for more than a week and then, to our surprise, they tarred the road also. Sweepers and workers were all over the place the entire night," a resident said, a bewildered look on his face.

The officials camouflaged the dirty spots, which could not be cleared in a short time, using flashy curtains while disinfectants and bleaching powder were used abundantly.

"It is a good thing that the programme was held here. Otherwise I don't think our area would have been so clean," remarked another resident.
