Over 11,000 employees take part in special drive
VIJAYAWADA: A special round of pulse polio immunisation programme will be conducted in the district on March 18. The polio drops will be administered to children below five years at designated 2,560 booths across the district.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Krishna district medical and health officer M. Sampoornamma said a special pulse polio drive was being organised in view of two polio cases, one each in Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts, that were reported recently. In addition to the drive, a door-to-door campaign would be conducted across the district on March 20 and 21. In the city, the campaign would be organised on March 22 also, she said.
"It doesn't mean that parents need not bring their children to the medical camps. The door-to-door campaign is for the benefit of those parents who cannot bring their children out for obvious reasons," she said.
Dr. Sampoornamma said 588 camps would be set up in urban areas and 1,972 in rural areas to administer the drops. In addition, 90 mobile teams and 57 additional teams would also function. Over 11,000 employees would take part in the special drive. She lauded the efforts of the Rotary Club for supporting the Government in its drive against polio.
