HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has sought a special package for the rehabilitation of handloom weavers of Dubbaka in Medak district on the lines of the bailout scheme implemented for the weavers of Sircilla in Karimnagar district.

In an informal meet with TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu, handloom weavers from Dubbaka, Lachapeta, Ramakkapeta, Habsipur, Chittapur and Dharmajipeta villages poured their woes. The government had not come to their rescue so far, though 125 weavers had committed suicide out of distress in Dubbaka village alone, they said.

The village flourishing with 1,500 handlooms once was in total despair now with the weavers still sticking to the profession not getting benefited with the loan waiver scheme, they stated.

The TDP chief alleged that a large number of handloom workers were migrating out of the State due to lack of encouragement here.

He assured the weavers of taking up their issue with the government and demanded that the government announce a Rs. 10 crore bailout package for weavers in Dubbaka.
