The traffic police have launched a special drive to enforce lane discipline amongst city motorists from Tuesday.
As part of the crackdown, the police have already booked cases against 890 motorists for violating free left turn rule. The police have also issued a challan of Rs.200 each to about 285 RTC bus drivers for failing to stop in the earmarked bus bays.
Special counselling sessions were already conducted for all RTC drivers apprising them about traffic rules. “We have provided mobile traffic barricades at an additional 130 bus stops, but most drivers continue to ignore them. In this drive, we will address these violations,” a police official said. The traffic police will also clampdown on incorrect parking. Vehicles parked in no-parking zones and those obstructing the traffic will be towed away and heavy penalties will be imposed, the official added.
