To check atrocities against women in Vizianagaram
Superintendent of Police Kartikeya has said that a mobile van christened Nirbhaya, the victim who died in the sensational Delhi gang- rape incident, would be launched on the World Women’s Day, March 8, in the town. The mobile van will have a team comprising woman head constable, police constable and a home guard. The van being launched for the first time in the town will check atrocities on women, including eve-teasing, if any, in the town from 8 am to 8 pm. Mr. Kartikeya said that SDPOs and Inspectors created awareness among women students in colleges on various legislations enacted for their protection.
Releasing programme for the Women’s Day celebrations, the SP appealed to woman officials in various government departments, woman students in various colleges, woman constables, anganwadis, IKP, and Asha workers to participate in a rally that would be taken out from Fort Junction to Clock Tower in the morning. Later, he would inaugurate family counselling centre.
Later, Mr. Kartikeya reviewed progress with SDPOs and circle inspectors on various theft cases pending investigation and asked them to speed up. He told them to open register with photographs of habitual offenders and monitor their movement regularly to check crime incidents across the district. Further, details of accused involved in assaults on women and thefts must also be registered in criminal intelligence system.
