Maternity benefit for two confinements only

Benefit of Rs.5,000 to be given per confinement

To cover five lakh women construction workers

HYDERABAD: The government has taken a decision to extend maternity benefit of Rs.5,000 per confinement to about five lakh women construction workers.

The benefit however will be extended only for two confinements.

The benefit amount of Rs.10,000 will be paid by the Andhra Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.

The State Government will pay Rs.1,000 and three months’ wages under the Maternity Benefit Act.

The decision was taken by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy at a meeting to review issues pertaining to insurance of building construction workers and other unorganised labourers on Monday.

Health insurance

Chief Minister asked the Labour Department to come out with a comprehensive health insurance scheme covering the entire range of construction and other unorganised workers in the State.

Extending Aarogyasri scheme to a major section of these workers was also discussed.

Labour Minister G.Vinod, Chairman, AP Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, S. Gopal, and other officials of Labour and Employment, Health, Finance attended the meeting.
