Fund meant for upgrading Polymer Science and Technology Department
ANANTAPUR: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has sanctioned Rs. 45.25 lakhs to the Polymer Science and Technology Department of Sri Krishnadevaraya University here for improvement of infrastructure in the department and research under its Special Assistance Programme (SAP).
The amount will be spent in the next five academic years. While a lion's share (about Rs. 30 lakhs) of the amount will be spent on purchasing laboratory equipment, the remaining amount will be spent on contingency expenses, books, conduct of seminars and visiting other universities and vice-versa for exchange of ideas.
Giving the details to The Hindu on Friday, Head of the Department and research coordinator S. Venkata Naidu and deputy coordinator K. Chowdoji Rao stated that several universities in the country had applied for SAP but based on available facilities, research potential and placement of students, the SKU department was chosen.
The UGC assistance would enrich the department in all aspects and improve laboratory facilities and help students pursue better research and get better placements. In 2002, the department received an assistance of Rs. 45 lakhs under the FIST programme of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
