TIRUPATI: Six policemen were placed under suspension for their alleged involvement in a case of confinement of two Chennai-based aged persons in police station and extortion.

The Director General of Police slapped the suspension order on the DSP (Palamaner), Stalin; Inspectors B. Srinivasulu and Padmakar Reddy, Sub-Inspector Ramakrishna and Constables Narayana Murthy and Nagaraju for their ‘role’ in an incident that happened way back in April last.

The policemen had reportedly kept the aged persons confined to the police station in Punganur, apart from extracting up to Rs.2 lakh from them.

Based on a complaint received from the victims, the Superintendent of Police K. Lakshmi Reddy had directed the Additional SP (Chittoor) to conduct an enquiry, which was forwarded to the DGP’s Office.
