Six construction workers were killed and eight others were injured when a mini-lorry dashed against a boulder and overturned near the second curve on the Guvvalacheruvu ghat road in Kadapa district on Wednesday around midnight.
The mini-lorry was carrying 26 workers belonging to Prakasam and East Godavari districts and Odisha, engaged by V. Kondaiah, a mason of Pamarru in Prakasam district, to work as construction labourers at Bengaluru, when the mishap occurred, police said. Thota Konaiah,22, M. Babu Rao,25, Varagudi,17, and Karuna Raj,20, died on the spot and two others Nandini,18, and Bandaru Adam,25, succumbed to injuries while being shifted to RIMS hospital in Kadapa in an ambulance.
The mini-van driver Suresh and seven other injured persons were admitted to RIMS hospital. Ramapuram Sub-Inspector Narasimha Raju registered a case.
