VIZIANAGARAM: The annual ‘sirimanotsavam’ of Sri Pydithalli Ammavaru will be conducted on October 6, according to G.V.S.S.R. Subrahmanyam, Executive Officer of Sri Pydithalli Ammavari Devasthanam.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Subrahmanyam said that the month-long celebrations of the village goddess would begin on September 20 and end with ‘Vuyyala Kambala’ celebrations on October 20. On the day before ‘sirimanotsavam’ i.e. on October 5, ‘Thollellu’ of the goddess would be celebrated.
‘Theppotsavam’ is scheduled for October 13. To mark the beginning of celebrations, he said ‘ pandiri raata’ would be laid at Vanamgudi at 9.15 am and ‘ mandal deeksha’ of devotees would begin at 9.30 am at ‘Chadurugudi’ on Saturday.
Keeping in view the number of devotees visiting the temple from across Orissa, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh and other districts within the State for ‘sirimanotsavam’, the devasthanam had decided to make elaborate arrangements in coordination with police, public health, municipality, Transco, APSRTC and R&B Departments, he said and added that devotees ready to contribute their mite for the arrangements could contact devasthanam officials.
Already, a few businessmen voluntarily offered to set up pandals and illumination at temples and print wall posters and invitations for publicity, Mr. Subrahmanyam said. Last year, the devasthanam earned Rs. 33.87 lakhs during the celebrations, he added.
The Executive Officer said that a reply from Commissioner (Endowments) with regard to choosing either Bantupalli Bairagi Naidu or Thallapudi Bhaskara Rao, for mounting the ‘sirimanu’ (ceremonial post) on the day of ‘sirimanotsavam’ was awaited.
