In an environment friendly initiative worthy of emulation, an overwhelming number of employees of the Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) reached their head office on foot in Kothagudem on Saturday in response to an appeal earlier made by the company management to avoid use of motor vehicles once in a week.

It may be noted here that the SCCL management has conceived the eco-friendly programme to motivate its employees support the cause of environment.

Treading an eco-friendly path, nearly 70 percent of the total employees of various wings of the SCCL head office reached their place of work on foot. While some walked down the streets and others pedalled through the main thoroughfares in the coal town as part of their trend setting endeavour, sources said. The company also operated three vehicles from distant places to the head office for the benefit of employees living at far away places in the coal town.

Appreciating the employees for their concern for environmental protection, SCCL Director (Electrical & Mechanical) I.V.N. Prasad Rao said the initiative would go a long way in motivating others reduce dependence on fast diminishing fossil fuel reserves and championing the cause of environment.

Welcome move

"It is a welcome move which would not only protect environment from pollution but also help the employees improve their health," he remarked.
