TDP workers on Wednesday launched a signature campaign in II-Town area with a focus on power problems and increase of power charges. Traders and customers visiting shops and passersby on the thoroughfares were requested to offer their signatures in support of the TDP’s campaign on the alleged government’s inept handling of power situation in the State. A similar campaign was launched in the I-Town area in the city a few days ago.
The woes of farmers raising commercial crops in the upland region such as tobacco, sugarcane and mirchi, a slowdown in industrial growth and virtual sleepless nights being spent by domestic consumers in the current mid-summer, all for want of uninterrupted power supply, were highlighted by the TDP activists during the campaign. They also explained to the people about steep hike in power charges which reportedly overburdened the poor.
According to party spokesperson Pali Prasad, the district party cadres were actively involved in the campaign in line with the party’s State call. The party top brass has decided to submit a memorandum to Governor E.L. N. Narasimhan with 2 crore signatures collected from all over the State, seeking the latter’s intervention to set right the power situation. He said the district party had launched the campaign in all the 15 Assembly segments in the district. He said the party had collected 20 lakh signatures from cross-section of people in the district so for. Mr. Prasad asserted that the party had been receiving a good response from the people to its campaign.
