Justice L. Narasimha Reddy of Andhra Pradesh High Court did not appreciate the action of the GHMC in awarding the contracts on nominal basis. The bench was allowing a batch of writ petitions filed by ADAGE, Prakash Ads and Uni Ads contending that they have been disregarded while awarding the contract for installation of traffic signals with surveillance cameras, signages and dust bins. They challenged the action of the agency for not following open tender system.
The judge perused the record and said that GHMC defeated norms laid down by the Supreme Court in the matter of awarding the contract. The bench directed the GHMC to call for tenders.
If the respondent companies who were given contract of nominal basis are successful they will continue to use installed equipment and material.
If any other person is successful the GHMC would be at liberty to get installed equipment valued and this amount will be adjusted so that installed equipment and material is not wasted and further time is not lost for installation these facilities.
